Social Action has been re-imagined; our purpose is to Reach In to our own congregant family, as well as Reach Out to the community through service projects. Here are some projects we have coming up. Please join us for one or all!
Hineini – Reaching In
Reaching In to our Congregant Family
If you or your children would like to create birthday, thinking of you, or condolence cards (Kits Provided) to send to folks on the Mi Shebeirach or Birthday List, please contact Rabbi Padorr (913- 663-1805; firstname.lastname@example.org) for lists, ideas, a starter packet and instructions. We are also in the planning stage of creating a phone chain.
Contact Rabbi Padorr if you would like to be part of that too!
We are collecting cookies year round to distribute to the waiting rooms of Research and Truman Hospitals, and Kansas City Hospice. Please pack the cookies in packages of a dozen and bring them to B’nai Jehudah to be frozen.
Hineini – Reaching Out
Mitzvah Meals – Olathe
The First Thursday of every other month we have the privilege of serving meals restaurant-style to families in the Olathe area who find themselves food-insecure. Members of our congregation work all afternoon preparing to feed 100 – 300 people.
From 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, others of us serve, refill drinks, and provide leftover take- out.
If you or your children have not experienced this amazing Mitzvah, join us Thursday, September 5 at 520 S Harrison Street, Olathe KS. Contact the office (913-663-4050) for age requirements or if you would like to learn more about the preparation of the meals prior to 5:00 pm.
Micah Ministries – Serving Food
If you have not taken a tour of Micah Ministries, you and your children will be inspired by the complete care they provide their marginalized neighbors. Offering their clients a clothing ‘store’, backpacks and tarps (for outdoor shelter) and meals help as much as the spiritual guidance they offer. It is our privilege to serve this community the 3rd Monday of most months.
The next Mitzvah Meal will be Monday, September 17 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at 606 Gladstone Blvd, KCMO 64124. While we do not provide transportation, there are a group of dedicated volunteers who will give you the low-down on this particular Mitzvah.
Contact the office (913-663-4050) for more information.
