WHAT OUR CONGREGATON
REPRESENTS: Congregation
B'nai Jehudah was founded in 1870 and is a Reform Jewish Congregation
active in the reform movement. This historic congregation
is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) Congregations
and The Association of North American Reform Congregations.
We are a patron of the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute
of Religion and the Seminary for Reform Rabbis. Our congregation
consists of approximately 1,150 families.
OUR MEMBERS: Congregation B'nai
Jehudah is very proud of the diversity of its membership.
Any Jewish individual, couple or interfaith couple, may become
a congregational member. The unit of membership is the individual
or in the case of married persons, the couple. Members' dependent
children through college are included in the membership of
their parents.
TWO PRIMARY KINDS OF MEMBERSHIPS:
(1) Regular membership entitles members to all the services,
programs, education, and activities provided by the Congregation.
(2) Associate membership requires maintaining regular membership
in another local congregation and entitles members to all
benefits of the Congregation except privileges for Religious
School, Hebrew School, Youth Group, Cemetery, Congregational
Voting and Board Membership.
HOW OUR CONGREGATION IS SUPPORTED:
Our congregation is a non-profit religious institution belonging
to its members who provide its funding through annual contributions.
The officers and trustees, who are elected at an annual congregational
meeting, conduct the business of the congregation. The only
compensation received by these officers and trustees is the
feeling of satisfaction they and the members of the many active
committees gain from doing their work well and giving service
to the Jewish community.
THE GOALS OF THE CONGREGATION:
Congregation B'nai Jehudah strives to serve Judaism, its members
and the broader Jewish community through worship services,
Jewish education for children and adults, social and cultural
activities, social justice programs, special experiences for
all ages and life cycle ceremonies. Our youth education includes
Bar/Bat Mitzvah and stresses involvement through 10th grade,
Confirmation. We maintain our own cemetery where members may
purchase the right of burial in consecrated ground.
OUR STAFF: Our staff consists
of a senior Rabbi, two additional Rabbis, Cantor, Executive
Director, Director of Education, Program Director, Preschool
Director and a Youth Director, as well as clerical and custodial
personnel. Our staff, together with involved and committed
members; work to promote Jewish values and Jewish experiences
through their personal service to members, through activities
with the Jewish and larger community, and through involvement
in the national bodies of Reform Judaism.
